ABOUT THE BABALWA NGONYAMA FOUNDATION

About us

Established in 2021, the Babalwa Ngonyama foundation is committed to positively impact the social and economic lives of communities, particularly the marginalized by helping them face their challenges while also providing inspiration through mentoring and representation. The foundation aspires to create a network of inspired, empowered, and proactive young African leaders in decision-making positions, running their own organizations and companies all the while having started them from grassroots levels.

Our mission is to provide a future where the previously disadvantaged are able to infiltrate, own and operate in spaces where they have been previously denied. Although the foundation was founded in 2021 Babalwa Ngonyama through her company Sinayo securities has been running programs to support the youth through education enrichments. These collaborations include working with the Golden Ark Centre by supporting primary school and high school students as well as through Sinayo’s own program Project Funda which helps university graduates integrate themselves into the professional work environment while equipping them with necessary skills to navigate the space.

The BN foundation is founded by the core belief that all people from all walks of life have the potential to be great beyond their imagination, and that given the opportunities our society can breed a new generation with strong leadership values. We believe that every human regardless of their sex, gender, skin color, background should be given a chance to live up to their capabilities, by being given access in spaces of power and decision making.

Our History

The BN Foundation is founded by Mrs Babalwa Ngonyama, who is also the founder and CEO of Sinayo Securities, with two decades of experience in the financial services sector. She is also the first female chairperson of the Council of the University of Cape Town and co-founding president of the African Women Chartered Accountants (AWCA) organisation. She is a lead independent director at Implats and Hollard Life Insurance.

Ngonyama is also the audit committee chair of Aspen, Kagiso and Vukile properties. She was previously an audit partner at Deloittes, the CFO at Safika Holdings Group and chief internal auditor at Nedbank Ltd. Ngonyama leads several passion projects most notably, the company graduate training programme, Project Funda, which equips young graduates in the financial services sector with the necessary knowledge and skills to accelerate their careers within the sector.

Because of her deep passion on the development of future leaders being equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow, Ngonyama prides herself in her ability to inspire and spark the desire for education and personal development. This resulted her in dedicating her career and her life to developing human intellect and creating a sustainable, equitable and just society.

Ngonyama started this foundation as a means to bring her closer to her vison of creating human intellect and awareness through education and skills development. She is a custodian of promoting fair educational access to all South Africans and developing a quality educational platform that will prepare all learners to become captains of industry and develop creative thinking to better serve the global challenges facing the world.
